Müngsten Bridge Park
Barrier-free model for the blind

Between Solingen and Wuppertal, Germany's highest railroad bridge crosses the river Wupper – the Müngsten Bridge. A landscape park has been created along the Wupper as part of the Regionale 2006 structural development program. In this, a path leads from the Müngsten Bridge to Castle Burg.

The aim is to make this main hiking trail and the landscape park more accessible and experienceable for the blind, visually impaired and people with disabilities as well as visitors in general.

The core element of the barrier-free orientation system is a cast metal model with tactile symbols and Braille inscriptions, which were coordinated in close cooperation with blind people. A wide variety of high-tech and low-tech techniques were used for the production.
